12/2009: Winter Pet Care Tips
Here are some tips to keep your pet safe during winter and the holiday season:
OUTDOOR PETS
- Give them fresh water frequently. There are water heaters available to prevent freezing.
- An insulated shelter with bedding that will keep them warm and dry.
INDOOR PETS
- Keep holiday decorations out of your pet’s reach. Tinsel and reflective lights can be attractive to animals, but very dangerous to their health.
- Many holiday plants can be toxic if ingested. Make sure your pet does not have access to them.
ALL PETS
- Clean up all antifreeze spills. If ingested, it is HIGHLY toxic.
- Rinse off your pet’s feet after being outdoors. Salt and ice may build up on them and can be harmful.
- Avoid feeding your pet table scraps; many foods can cause digestive problems.
If you have concerns with your pet over the holidays and winter months, please contact your veterinarian right away!
